Andrew Trites
YOUNG MEN’S ENSEMBLE DIRECTOR
Dr. Andrew T. Trites (he/him) is excited to join the Children’s Chorus of Washington as director of the Young Men’s Ensemble. He is a passionate choral and general music educator who has worked with learners aged 3 to 93 in Kansas, Texas, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and now D.C. Andrew has earned degrees from Temple University (PhD), Stephen F. Austin State University (MM) and the University of Kansas (BME). Tenor-bass choruses have been an important part of Andrew’s life as a singer in barbershop quartets and the KU Men’s Glee Club, a director in Texas and Delaware, and co-chair of Delaware’s tenor-bass honor choir. Beyond Children’s Chorus of Washington, Andrew is an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware, teaching choral music education courses, supervising student teachers, and directing the University Singers. Andrew is committed to teaching, research, and service that support community music and human-centered approaches. He serves in multiple roles with the American Choral Directors Association, including Past-President of the Delaware Chapter, a member of the Voices United conference committee, and a member of the Divisive Laws Task Force. Andrew lives with his wife and three children in the Baltimore area.
