A Season to Remember, and So Much More Ahead
By Margaret Nomura Clark, Artistic Director, Children’s Chorus of Washington
As we close the chapter on another extraordinary season at the Children’s Chorus of Washington, I’m filled with gratitude and pride. Not only for the music we’ve made, but for the spirit of community that continues to define us. Our legacy as a place where young people grow, connect, and create through music is alive and thriving.
From the shimmering harmonies at the Hirshhorn Museum, to the heartfelt performance at Shiloh Baptist Church, to the joyful celebration at Flower Mart, every performance this year reflected the depth and commitment of our singers. And of course, we ended the year with an unforgettable spring concert, where the final chords of Make Our Garden Grow seemed to hang in the air and reminded us all of how far we’ve come together.
This season also affirmed what we’ve always known: singing is about more than performance. It’s about connection. We saw this powerfully in the launch of our new Southwest campus, where students from across DC came together to discover what it means to be part of something larger than themselves. This is the heart of CCW’s mission. We are building a joyful, diverse, and supportive musical community for every young person who walks through our doors.
To our singers: I’m so proud of what you’ve accomplished. You’ve grown not only in skill but in courage, empathy, and leadership. And to our families: thank you. Your support is the heartbeat of our chorus.
Enrollment for next season is open. Yes, over a third of you have already signed up! No pressure… but the Bel Canto section might be setting the pace.
Here’s to what’s next. I can’t wait to keep singing with you.
With gratitude,
Margaret
